Portrait of Humanity

An image from my recent series The Candy Men has been published in the latest edition of Portrait of Humanity by Hoxton Mini Press. The image, which is just one from a larger body of work, was shot in Mumbai, India last year. The image shows a local candyfloss (cotton candy) seller with his homemade rig for displaying the candy and attracting a sale. You can see the whole series by clicking on this link www.jonenoch.com/candy-man and you will of course be able to find the book - as they say - in all good bookstores. As an advertising photographer who usually works for a client, it's enormously satisfying and rewarding to shoot personal work like this which is totally in my own vision.

Tag Heuar - George Bamford

Recent shoot for Tag Heuer to promote their newly launched Aquaracer Bamford Limited edition. Designed by George Bamford of the Bamford Watch Department we shot a series of images in West London using design elements of the watch - such as the neon orange. As a commercial photographer it was great to work with a brand with Tag Heuer’s prestige and heritage.

Sony World Photography Awards

Hugely honored and excited to share that I have recently been shortlisted for the Sony World Photography Awards for my Bikes of Hanoi images. The awards are the most prestigious in the world (well I think so) and it's doubly good to get nominated for a project that was - not that long ago - just an idea in my head that I self financed. As a portrait photographer working in the advertising sector it’s alway good when others like your work. You can see the full set of nominated images.

Rehearsal Room

London musicians, new portrait photography series:

This week sees the launch of my new portrait photography series, capturing musicians practising outdoors across urban spaces in London. Not everyone wants to live next-door to someone who plays the double bass, the trumpet - or any large and loud instrument for that matter.

This consideration certainly forces musicians to get creative about their rehearsal space, which increasingly includes outdoor spaces. Studio rents are rising enormously for all creatives, especially in London, as old buildings get sold for office spaces and other developments. With rehearsal spaces becoming more expensive, some musicians use public spaces and parks to get in some of their rehearsal hours.

I spent the summer finding some of the musicians, who are utilising the corners of parks, tucked away basketball courts and forgotten patches of grass between tower blocks to get their essential practice hours.

The warmer summers, squeeze on creative space and increasing population density all contributes to this growing phenomenon, which has resulted in a really unique set of portraits.
