Advertising Photographer

People often ask me what I do for a living so I thought I would write a little post about the rather niche job that I have ended up having. I am an advertising photographer.

In the world of advertising, visual communication plays a paramount role in capturing the attention of audiences and conveying brand messages effectively. One of the most influential tools in this realm is advertising photography. From billboards to magazine ads, standout photography has the power to transform an ordinary product into a must have.

Advertising photography is the art of creating visually compelling images with the purpose of promoting products, services, or ideas. Its primary objective is to capture the attention of potential customers, ignite their imagination, and ultimately influence what they choose to spend their money on.

Whether it's a stunning portrait or an exquisite set of lifestyle images, advertising photography is all about creating an emotional connection with the viewer. I think this is what I do best.

My work as an advertising photographer is to evoke emotions, convey messages, and inspire viewers to engage with the brand's story. A successful advertising photograph not only sells a product but also triggers curiosity, leaves a lasting impression, and prompts action.

I work closely with creative teams, art directors, and clients to bring ideas to life. Extensive research, mood boards, and brainstorming sessions lay the foundation for a successful shoot. I have an extensive network to draw upon - stylists, make up artists and producers dotted across the globe. It's very much a team effort.

The aim is to create images that aligns with the brand's identity, resonates with the target audience. The images I produce are therefore very much handcrafted; bespoke.

Advertising photography demands technical proficiency and a keen eye for detail. I have a deep understanding of lighting techniques, composition, color theory, and image editing. From manipulating natural light to creating elaborate studio setups, it's all about creating visually striking images that fulfill and elevate the client's vision.

JBL Advertising Shoot - London & Liverpool

New work for global audio brand JBL shooting Virgil Van Dijk and Jesse Lingard of Liverpool and (currently) West Ham as well as a number of lifestyle models. The shoots took place in Liverpool and London on consecutive days. The campaign will run throughout Europe and is Virgil’s first as a global brand ambassador for the audio brand. Below are some of the multitude of assets created as well as some BTS from the shoots. As a London advertising photographer it’s always a pleasure to work with such talent.

Neymar - Advertising

Recent advertising photography shoot for BBH Shanghai. We were tasked with capturing images of Neymar for popular Chinese beer brand Harbin. The portrait images will be used across China in a range of forms from social to point of sale. As ever a very tight schedule (and an injured ankle) called for some lateral thinking. We shot a number of excursions from traditional sports portraits to more lifestyle photography. Beloware some of the final images, one of the final pieces of artwork, a small behind the scenes time-lapse and some behind the scenes images.

RNLI

We were recently called upon by the RNLI to shoot a series of advertising images to promote their mass participation event 'H2only'. The sponsored challenge sees if people can drink just water for ten days. The images are being used on bus backs and tube advertising. Below is also the scamp that was used in the original brief. We took care of all aspects of production in house to make the scamp a reality.
