Here for
the water.
Early on a weekday, the beach offered a chance to meet committed enthusiasts. Away from competition and spectacle, these portraits focus on the individuals who return to the ocean.

encounter.
Scrimmed morning light and the bounce from shallow water shaped the portraits. The laid-back atmosphere allowed an easy rapport, keeping the attention on each surfer’s expression and presence.

CALIFORNIA SURFERS
As a sports and lifestyle photographer, I captured these surfers at Pacifica Beach, California, during a personal project. We shot early on a weekday to find true enthusiasts, using scrimmed morning light and shallow water bounce. The laid-back vibe made portrait sessions a joy.
